re: Rit/Powdered Dye Recipes

To Make Regular Dye Ink: (non-emboss-able)

1. A baby food jar OR an old film canister
2. Rit POWDERED Dyes, in various colors
3. Rubbing Alcohol

Directions:
- If you are using a baby food jar: Add your entire package of dye to the jar, add alcohol to the top of the jar, and replace lid and shake.
-If you are using a film canister: Fill canister 1/4 way full of dye, add alcohol to the top, replace the lid and shake.
-You are not limited to the dye colors - mix a few and get new and different colors - just remember to write down how much you mixed, so you can do it again.

To Make Emboss-Able Ink:

1. Powdered Clothes Dye (any color)
2. 1/4-Teaspoon Alcohol
3. 5 Tablespoons Glycerin

Directions:
Mix dye with alcohol to the consistency of thin cream. Add glycerin. Stir until well blended. This makes enough to replenish a stamp pad several times. Pour ink over stamp pad or a foam-rubber pad that is fine grained. To make the stamp pad you will need foam rubber and a small plastic box with lid (such as a travel soap box). Cut the foam rubber to fit inside the plastic box. Spread the ink evenly with a brush or a tongue depressor.

FYI:
Use small sponges as inkpads. If you buy the compressed sponges… you can cut them into thin strips prior to wetting and they will become a nice thin inkpad!

Under craft recipes, the ones for stamp cleaning need to use distilled water as there is no preservative in the solution to keep it from going bad! Just thought of it as I was making up a batch.

ENVELOPE STICKY

6 tbsp. white vinegar
4 packets (1oz) unflavored gelatine
1 tbsp vanilla extract (or any flavor that you like)

Bring vinegar to a boil in a small pan. Add delatine and stir until dissolved. Add extract and stir until mixed. Brush on thin later onto back of an envelope flap. Let dry. Moisten to apply. Store in a sealed comtainer and melt again by putting in a pan of warm water.

STAMP GUM

1 packet (1/4) oz unfavored gelatine
1 tbsp water
3 tbsp boiling water
1/2 tsp. white corn syrup
1/2 tsp. favorite food flavoring extract

Mix gelatine with cold water and let sit till softened. Pour softened gelitine into boiling water ans stir until dissolved. Add syrup and extract. Mix well. Brush gum thinly of the back of sticker, envelope, label whatever...Let dry. Store in a sealed container will keep several months and put in pan of hot water to thicken it up to used again. Once cold it will turn to liqiud.

FINGERPAINTS:

1 envelope unflavored gelatin
1 cup cold water, divided
1/2 cup liquid laundry starch
2 cups hot water
1/2 cup mild soap flakes (like Ivory)
food coloring or acrylic or tempera paints
medium saucepan
wooden spoon

Soften gelatin in ¼ cup of cold water; set aside. Combine laundry starch with the remaining cold water in a medium saucepan. Add the hot water and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until mixture comes to a full boil and has become completely thickened.

Remove from heat; blend in the softened gelatin. Add soap and stir until completely dissolved. Add food coloring or paint to all or part of the mixture until desired color is obtained, adding no more than 1 tablespoon of food coloring or paint to each recipe.

Store finger paints in covered containes. Makes about 3 cups. Recipe may be multiplied.

lupie eherman@flash.net When the kids in our family were younger I made batches of this and stored them in the small canning jars. Gave painting baskets to the kids with a jar of yellow, blue and red paint and a pad of finger paint paper. It was a big hit and really cheap!

WATERPROOF INK:

1 Tbs. powdered clothes dye
1 Tbs. glycerine
3/4 Cup distilled water

In a small bowl, mix powdered clothes dye with about 1 tablespoon of the water. Stir until dye is dissolved. Add in glycerine and mix well. Slowly stir in remaining water. The ink can be stored in a jar indefinitely.

EMBOSSING INK:
Mix equal measurements of distilled water and glycerine together. You can adjust the measurements to get the ink the consistency you like.

STAMP CLEANER (permanent ink):

1 pint denatured alcohol
1/2 teaspoon cooking oil

Mix together in alcohol bottle, & label. I then take the top off of the empty small stamp cleaner bottle I had bought for much more $$, pour in the solution & replace the top.

STAMP CLEANER (non-permanent ink for a spray):

2 teaspoons Baby bath soap
2 teaspoons baby oil
2 teaspoons baby lotion
2 cups warm water

Put in spray bottle & shake to mix.

STAMP CLEANER (non-permanent ink for wipes):

You can use the travel size plastic container from Huggies, it's about 8"x3/4''. People who want to recycle could use dish washing sponges & wash them instead of using paper towels.

2 teaspoons baby bath soap
2 teaspoons baby oil
2 cups warm water

Mix and spray on towels or wipes.
