DVD/Fold It w/Karen Thomas
Author: Tyra L. Smith
(Manufacturer:  PageSage  http://www.pagesage.com/)

This is another awesome educational dvd created by PageSage. It is an inspiration-filled 143+ minutes long, jam-packed with projects and ideas. This is the fourth dvd that PageSage has created and its just as delightful and informative as the first three.

Karen Thomas is one of the best teachers of folding and origami techniques I've ever seen. I admit to being VERY "folding challenged". To me, origami is like the "hokey pokey" of paper arts. You put your right finger here, you fold fold the left corner there......valley and mountain folds....you fold this way and that.....a little glue here and there...and somehow you are suppose to end up with a beautiful folded creation without getting yourself all twisted up in the process. It seemed no matter how many books I read and no matter how many diagrams and instructions I found on the interenet (and I have a HUGE 3-ring binder full)....I just could NOT get the hang of the "paper folding hokey pokey thing". UNTIL.....I saw the new PageSage DVD - Folt It with Karen Thomas.

Karen Thomas takes a fairly difficult folding process (origami can be difficult for most of us) and she makes it look very easy. She takes the stress and frustration out of it and actually makes you think you can do it. I watched the DVD, then I went over it again and "folded" most of the projects along with Karen. Hey, it doesn't just LOOK easy, it IS !!!!

Karen starts you out very easy using simple folding projects. Terms are defined and shown in a very clear visual way. As the DVD progresses, you learn to fold more difficult things, a little bit at a time. It is so well done that you never feel as though you've suddenly "got in over your head". Each project builds upon the skills you learn in the precvious project(s). The DVD thoroughly covers each project in depth, including the few necessary supplies you must have. (most of which we already own) She has incredible tips and tricks up her sleeve, and I'm quite happy to say that Karen is more than willing to share those tips and tricks with us all!

The projects covered in this DVD are as follows:

Folding 101 - The Basics
Paper Finishes (totally awesome!!!)
Envelopes
Pop Up Box
Sliding Box
Folded Box
Gift Bag
Little Kimono
Folded Shoes
Folded Earrings (who thought you could fold jewelry?)
Crane Card (totally AWESOME project!)
Accordian Book
Signature Book
House Box

Not only does Karen provide us with some outstanding projects in this DVD, but the DVD is chock full of incredible design ideas and techniques. My youngest daughter (age 9) sat down with this DVD and learned to do every one of the projects. She has a deep love of the "folding arts", which started with some simple origami in art class at school. Every once in a while, I'd hear her say.."Ohh that's what my teacher meant." This DVD is very well made and so clear and concise that you're never confused or left wondering just what the heck she meant!!! The Paper Finishes section is one which will interest many people as well. Karen teaches you how to create some lovely papers to use with your folding projects. I even had all the supplies needed for this section and it never occurred to me to use them as Karen does.

They choose the projects very well for this DVD. Its not strictly an "origami" DVD, but a DVD which incorporates traditional folding techniques to create outstanding art projects that should interest just about any paper artist.

I sure hope PageSage and Karen Thomas will consider doing another video on paper folding that includes more difficult projects. I have learned enough from this video that my confidence is bolstered and my desire to learn even morehas been peaked. Kudos PageSage and Karen Thomas on a DVD well done!!!

As always, the gallery and tips section of the dvd are well developed and totally interactive with the rest of the dvd. At a price of $29.95 U.S. funds….this is a deal that’s hard to beat! I consider it to be a valuable addition to my reference materials library!
