They are transparent, thin in consistency, can be intermixed easily, and blend into one another to provide an artistic water-color effect. Used for stamping on all types of paper (white or light papers show their colors best), they stamp out brighter than they appear in a pad or re-inker and they dry quickly even on glossy paper. These inks work best in dense, felt pads and due to their low viscosity the pads re-ink easily. Dye inks are water-soluble and dry by absorption into the substrate they are stamped on. They clean up in a snap with Rangerâ??s water-based cleaners. When stamping with these inks it's best to keep your creations out of direct sunlight since many of the FD&C dyes (especially pastels, reds and purples) are not fade resistant. WASHABLE 4 KIDS CHILD SAFE INK - this ASTM certified, non-toxic ink is made with ingredients that are FD&C approved (approved for use in Food, Drugs and Cosmetics). It's added benefit is that it washes off of inky little hands and rubber stamps with the use of soap and water. It washes off of most hard surfaces but not all and out of some clothing. Remember to provide adult supervision of children and to cover surfaces children will be stamping on before starting a project. Always provide children with protective clothing. Available in twelve colors in #0 size raised felt pads in lollipop colored cases with our Washable 4 Kids logo. STAMP IT CHILD SAFE INK - this ASTM certified, non-toxic ink is made with ingredients that are all FD&C approved (approved for use in Food, Drugs and Cosmetics). Available in 26 colors and 8 each four-color handmade rainbow combinations in our Stamp It logo and 1 oz. re-inkers with applicator tips. The Ranger # 0 Basic pad comes in 16 shades. Twelve popular colors are available in our 1" Inkit pads and 6 solid tones, as well as, 14 five-color hand-made rainbows are available in our jumbo #3 size, Big & Juicy pads. ARTIST DYE INKS - Several new classes of dye inks with added fade resistance, increased viscosity and embossability and even water resistance have recently been developed by Ranger for the more sophisticated art stamper and photo journalist. Included in this category are the Adirondacks, Sea Brights, Sea Shells, Posh Inkabilities, Archival, Heat Set Inks and most recently Distress Inks. ADIRONDACK INK - this acid-free, ASTM approved, non-toxic ink was inspired by Artist, Anne Corwynn and is one of Ranger's most popular color lines. Their deep, dark colors of dye ink are perfect for the true art stamper who has been searching for rich, realistic earth tones. These environmentally friendly inks are more fade resistant and embossable than most dye inks. Available in 24 Bohemian shades and 9 sensational, 4-color, hand-made rainbows. Tastefully packaged in beige #0 cases with raised felt pads and in 1oz. re-inkers with applicator tips. SEA SHELL AND SEA BRIGHT INK - Manufactured with the same base as the Adirondack Inks, these inks complement one another & coordinate with the Adirondack colors. Sea Shell pastels are great for shading and shadow stamping. Vibrant Sea Brights are the bright tones of the same Sea Shell tints, while Adirondack colors are the deepest of the tonal range. Sea Shells and Sea Brights are each available in 10 coordinating colors in raised felt # 0 size pads and 1 oz. re-inkers with applicator tips. POSH INKABILITIES - this acid free, ASTM approved, non-toxic ink was developed for use with the Posh Rainbow Sponge. It is more concentrated in color and has added surfactant for increased flow. Use them to add color directly to paper and in mediums i.e. shave cream and Glossy Accents for special effects and techniques. Available in 50 colors in .25 oz. needle nose applicator tip bottles individually or in 7 tonal sets coordinated by Dee. ARCHIVAL INK - our newest acid-free, ASTM approved, non-toxic, multi-surface ink is the next generation of dye ink. Developed to fulfill the needs of all stampers, they are extremely fade resistant, water resistant and bleed resistant. Whether stamping in photo albums, water coloring & using water-based markers over them or paper crafting with them for the beauty of their rich tones, they'll become your basic pad from now on. Speed drying on glossy paper and non-porous surfaces i.e. dominoes, shrink plastic, foil, with a heat tool. Clean up with Cleansit, all purpose, non-toxic cleaner. Currently available in Jet Black, 12 vintage and 6 bright shades in 1 oz. re-inkers and in our #0 raised felt pads. Six colors are also available in our jumbo, #3 raised felt pads. HEAT SET INK - a non-toxic, acid-free, transparent dye ink developed for multiple surfaces i.e. acrylic, shrink plastic, wood, stone, metal, paper and fabric. Just heat it and it sets! The color of the ink lightens and brightens as it cures. The finished colors are designated on the re-inker labels. Heat Set Inks create a stained glass effect on clear and transparent material and an opaque result on white and light color surfaces. On non-porous surfaces-apply with a foam wedge, paint brush or ink a foam pad or piece of Cut 'n Dry foam and stamp onto a surface. Cure with our Heat-it craft tool. Rinse off any excess ink and its permanent! Fabulous on fabrics, stamp directly on cloth, cover with a clean piece of paper and iron or stamp on paper to create iron-on transfers that can be used now or later. For best results work on light colors and use man-made fabrics, not cotton. Available in 1/2 oz. re-inkers with needle point applicators in 12 intermixable colors. Create light colors with Heat Set Medium in 1 oz. applicator tip bottles. DISTRESS INKS - a collection of six acid-free, ASTM approved non-toxic, fade resistant, water-based dye inks created to produce a vintage stain, aged effect on paper, photos and decorative fibers. Tim selected the colors, designed the inks and developed techniques for any level paper crafter to produce realistic, weathered finishes quickly and easily. Available in 6 antique tones including Walnut Stain, Tea Dye, Vintage Photo, Old Paper, Antique Linen and Black Soot in 2" x 2" raised felt pads and in .5 oz. amber glass eye drop applicator bottles. PIGMENT-BASED INKS - are opaque, vibrant in intensity and appear the same color in the pad that they stamp. Slower drying than dye-based inks, pigments are perfect for embossing not only on paper, but on fabric and wood. Their open (wet) time varies according to the stamp used and the amount of ink transferred. These inks must be embossed when stamped onto non-porous surfaces. They are water-wash-off, environmentally friendly and light-fast. Pigments do intermix to create new colors, however they do not form a solution with water like dyes. For this reason rainbow pads stay fresh looking and they will not smear when our Stickles, glitter glues, or other water-based solutions are applied on top of them. We use non-toxic, GRAS (generally regarded as safe) pigments in all of our pigment inks. ***White is only available in a pigment, titanium dioxide. There is no such thing as a white dye!!! Less dye is added to a formula to create a pastel dye, while white is added to create a pastel pigment. COLOR-IT INK - this acid-free, ASTM approved, non-toxic ink is a non-settling formulation that provides brilliant, fade resistant, embossable color. Color-it Inks deliver fine line resolution for stamping with the most detailed images, as well as easy soap and water clean-up. Available in 18 vivid colors and 9 three-color rainbow combinations in our # 0T (0 trimline) size pad with clear lid, our 1" Ink-it Stampers and 1 oz. re-inkers with applicator tip. We have also paired these inks with coordinating metallics in our elegant Gilding Pads, choose from 12 combinations for easy duo-tone stamping and "pad to paper" techniques. COLOR-IT METALLIC INK - this acid-free, ASTM approve, non-toxic ink is made with GRAS pigments. They have the look of liquid metal. Available in four luxurious colors: 24 K Gold, Sterling, Platinum and Bronze in our raised foam Color it Case. They provide high quality resolution, a shine that continues to shimmer with each stamping, & they clean up with soap and water. Available in #0 Trimline size raised foam pad & lift off clear lid case, 1" square Ink-its 1 oz. re-inkers. *** Please note: once dry the metallic pigment may continue to rub off of the image or area when too much ink has been laid down. Adirondack Pigment Pens - Archival Quality Pigment Inks in deep, dark, woodsy tones that coordinate perfectly with Ranger's popular Adirondack dye-based Inks, Pads and Embossing Powders. The inks are acid-free and ASTM approved non-toxic. The pigments were chosen for their brilliance and fade resistance. The pens have a fine bullet tip that provides uniform flexibility, consistent flow, durability and adjust the right touch for journaling, writing, ruling of lines, coloring, decorating, doodling and drawing in memory albums, on rubber stamp and paper projects. They work great on fabrics (permanent and washable too!), vellum, glossy paper, acetate, wood, shrink plastic, stone, metal, dominoes, mica and more. Just heat with the Heatitâ?¢ craft tool to set the ink. Available in all 24 colors. Tips for working with Adirondack Pigment Pens Always store your Adirondack Pens flat. The pens contain felt reservoirs and each ink contains a variety of pigments. If the pens are stored nib up or nib down the reservoirs may cause the pigments to migrate and the colors to change or shift. A color shift can be reversed by storing the pens flat. When necessary spritz with water to revive (or use Perfect Ink Refresherâ?¢, a tip from Ranger's Senior Educator, Tim Holtz). If your Adirondack Pens seem dry give them a spritz or work them a little to get the ink flowing. Adirondack Pigment Pen Ink contains a resin that allows these inks to dry on a variety of non-porous surfaces including stone, plastic, metal and fabric. This resin may dry on the nib. There is plenty of ink in the pen and by wetting and working the tip a little bit, you will have a juicy pen in no time. Always replace the caps on Adirondack Pens when you are not using them. Air can dry the nib out. The cap will assure that the pens stay nice and wet. Adirondack Pen Ink works great on fabric. Heat set with an iron for permanent results. Adirondack Pen Ink can be used on hard surfaces i.e. acetate, shrink plastic, dominoes, wood, metal and stone. Prep glossy surfaces by sanding or with the application of a thin film of matte primer. Heat set the ink with a heat tool. Adirondack Pen Ink is perfect for use in scrapbooks and journals. The inks are acid free, non-toxic and fade resistant. The marker tip is a versatile, fine bullet nib. Use the very tip of the nib for fine lines when writing, stenciling and ruling borders and the side of the nib for a broader line when coloring in and embellishing stickers, stampings & die cuts. ANTIQUITIES INK - This acid-free, ASTM approved, non-toxic pigment ink has a sandstone finish and was developed to coordinate with our line of Antiquities Embossing Powders. Made with microscopically ground pigments to provide maximum detail and a quicker drying pigment ink. Available in twelve tastefully refined tones in a raised felt pad with an easy to stack case and removable lid, and in one ounce applicator tip bottles. For a totally textured experience use with their coordinating Antiquities Embossing Powders. POSH METALLIC INKABILITIES - ASTM approved, non-toxic, water-based pigment inks these rich, radiant, stunningly shiny Metallic Inkabilities work wonders with the Rainbow Sponge to create brilliant streaks and colorful constellations of molten metal across darkly colored papers. Intermix them on a Rainbow Sponge with non-metallic Inkabilities for outrageous accents on light colored backgrounds. Swipe onto a rubber stamp to give the image a gorgeous gilding. They're not just for paper. You can create magical metallic designs, backgrounds, tiles and borders on all of your paper crafting, UTEE, wood, paper mache, stone, clay, acrylic, shrink plastic and memory projects. Available in 2 color palettes-Precious Metals and Luminous Metallics. Each kit contains six .25 oz. needle nose re-inkers. Rinse from sponge or clean tools and hands immediately for easy soap and water wash-off. EMBOSSING INKS - were developed to stay wet on paper for an extended time providing the "tack" needed to attract embossing powders. Available in two formulas for all of your stamping needs. EMBOSSING INK (felt) - is an acid-free, ASTM approved, non-toxic ink. It is a pale colored, slow drying, water-soluble ink formulated specifically for embossing. It stays open (wet) long enough to allow the stamping of several images before embossing them. The color of this ink provides a visual of where it has been placed but does not interfere with the colors of the embossing powders. This thinner viscosity embossing fluid is popular with crafters using fine detail stamps and is best when used in a felt pad. Our embossing ink is available in a 2 oz. re-inker and two kits containing either a 1 or 2 oz. re-inker with a #0 size dry, raised felt pad and instruction card. EMBOSSING INK (foam) - is an acid-free, ASTM approved non-toxic, slow drying, water-based ink. Higher in viscosity than our felt formula this ink works best in a foam pad and has a slightly longer open (wet) time. It's good for fine line to medium line stamps, yet easily fills-in bold solid images. Available in clear or with a light blue tint that provides a visual when stamping. The tinted formula is available in a #0 size raised foam pad in our sculpted case. Both clear and tinted formulas come in our #0 Trimline size pads and in 1 oz. re-inkers. SOLVENT BASED - do not have a pH. They can be made with either dyes or pigments as their colorant. The liquid portion of the ink is one or a combination of solvents (that impart drying characteristics on the ink) versus water-based products. Solvent inks dry by evaporation (solvent "flashes-off" leaving the color behind) where as water-based inks dry by absorption. Use proper ventilation, keep away from skin abrasions, mouth and eyes. Should contact result in a reaction, flush with water and seek medical attention. Ranger solvent inks are made with clean, high grade solvents that conform to ASTM D4236. *** Please Note: Solvent inks will move and even remove each other, especially on non-porous surfaces. 213 NON-POROUS INK - a solvent based ink that conforms to ASTM D4236. It dries by evaporation not absorption. It is a multi-purpose, hand-stamping ink for use on both porous and non-porous surfaces ie. coated wood, glass, plastic, shrink plastic, leather, cellophane, foil, rubber, ceramics, metals, coated and uncoated paper. Waterproof, it dries moderately rapid-within 60 seconds. It is a popular indexing ink for stamp makers. All colors except Black (dye based) are pigment-based and provide vibrant stampings. Due to its thin viscosity felt stamp pads work best. Clean stamps and non-porous surfaces with a solvent based cleaner, i.e. our Cleansitâ?¢ or Solvent Cleaner both available in a 2 oz. dabber bottles. T&C 213 (thinner & cleaner) can be added to reduce (thin) the ink to a lower viscosity when working in warm climates or when a draft causes the solvent to evaporate quickly. It also works as a cleaner. 213 Ink is available in 5 miscible colors in a 2 oz. re-inker or in kit-a re-inker and a #0 size dry, raised felt pad & instruction card. DECOR-IT INK - an opaque, pigment-based, waterproof, solvent ink developed for embellishing fashion accessories and home furnishings. Enhance jewelry, decorating gift boxes and shrink plastic, as well as paper mache, candles, wood (sealed and unsealed), stone,â?¦. Comes in 21 miscible colors and 4 metallics. Add white to a non-metallic shade to find its pastel; add black to create a country tone, add silver to make it a metallic. Wear gloves and work in a ventilated area. Available in 2 oz. re-inkers, and kits-a re-inker and a #0 size dry, raised foam pad. Clean stamps with Decorit Cleaner in 2 oz. a dabber. Decor it products conform to ASTM. TIM HOLTZ ADIRONDACK ALCOHOL INK - are permanent, fast drying, transparent, dye inks specially formulated to create a vibrant, polished, see-through stain on glossy surfaces including glass, dominoes, metal, foil, shrink plastic, acetate, gloss cardstock, and other slick materials. Tim designed these inks to enable artists to work on non-porous surfaces using Nature's spectrum of colors found in the Adirondack palette. He developed 4 sets of 3 compatible tones, however, you can intermix all 12 colors and the Alcohol Blending Solution for unlimited creativity. The Alcohol Blending Solution will lighten, blend and even remove Alcohol Inks from many surfaces. ***Remember one Alcohol Ink will blend with and may even remove another Alcohol Ink when working on a non-porous surface. POSH METALLIC ACCENT PEN - a decorative opaque, pigment, waterproof, quick drying solvent ink for use on all surfaces. Conforms to ASTM-D4236. Available in 3 metallic colors in valve, chisel-tip pens. FABRIC INK/PAINT - is formulated for use on natural and synthetic fibers versus paper. Fabric inks transfer more easily and appear more vibrant when stamped onto smooth, man-made fibers than on natural, nubby or bulky fabrics. Tim Holtz Adirondack Color Wash is a water-based dye ink that should be heat set, then rinsed in warm water with a mild detergent to release any excess dye and allowed to dry and set for 72 hours before machine washing. Rubber Stamp Fabric Paint and Fabra-ca-Dabra, fabric dabbers are pigmented, water-based acrylics that should be heat set and allowed to set before washing. Permanent Fabric Ink is a solvent base, pigment ink that need not be heat set. Heat Set (dye) Ink sets itself as you transfer it to the fabric, however, this ink is best when used on synthetics. Pre-wash all fabric you will be using including test swatches to remove any sizing which may impair your results. Dry and iron the material, then apply the ink/paint. When working with garments stretch one thickness of cloth over cardboard to prevent bleeding through to the other side of the clothing. Always test your stampings on scrap cloth before working on your finished piece and wait at least 72 hours before laundering in cool water on a gentle cycle or by hand. No bleach or detergents containing bleach should be used. TIM HOLTZ ADIRONDACK COLOR WASH - a high quality, acid-free, non-toxic, water-based dye developed to coordinate with the earth tone Adirondack line of inks, pads, powders and pens. Spray these deep, delicious dyes onto any absorptive surface including paper, mulberry paper, paper clay, fibers, fabric and unsealed wood. Tim helped design Color Wash for ease of use when producing batik, tie dye and other hand-dyed looks on paper craft and textile projects. Fiber artists and paper crafters will get washed away when the colors blend together creating endless possibilities. Wear protective clothing and gloves when working with this product. Always check your spray nozzle to ensure it is aimed in the right direction. Once you have saturated your fabric with Color Wash, heat set with an iron or let dry. Rinse in warm water with a mild detergent to release excess dyes. Once dry wait 72 hours before laundering in cool water with a mild detergent, no bleach, please. Available in 4 oz. spray bottles in 12 tones. *** Please note: For best results rinse in warm water to release excess dyes for the first rinse, but always wash in cool water afterwards. RUBBER STAMP FABRIC PAINT - Our rich and creamy, non-toxic, water-based acrylic pigment paints are permanent on all types of fabric. Made especially for rubber stamps, Rubber Stamp Fabric Paint can also be used with stencils, brushes and texturizing tools. These rich chroma paints are fade resistant and machine washable once heat set. Their smooth flow won't bead up on rubber and once stamped it provides a soft hand that won't crack or peel. Available in 12 intermixable colors in 2 oz. clear, wide-mouth jars. ADIRONDACK ACRYLICS - These dimensional, non-toxic, acid-free embellishment paints were developed to coordinate with the Adirondack line of inks, powders, pens and pads. They create interesting 3-D effects on paper, fabric, home decor and jewelry pieces. Use straight from the bottle or reduce with water and apply as a thin film (color wash) with brushes, stamps and texturing tools. Create new tones by intermixing colors. Once dry these beautiful, pearl acrylics are permanent on fabric and need no heat setting. Available in 1 oz. bottles with fine tip applicators. FABRA-CA-DABRA - this ASTM certified non-toxic, water-based fabric ink is easy to use in its 1 oz. dabber bottle and loads of fun for kids and adults. Its 12 bright colors can be dabbed onto any stamp or directly onto cotton, synthetics and fabric blends. Shake the bottle well and DAB onto scrap paper or fabric to start the flow. If the dabber is dry rinse with water and try again. Once you have established a flow DAB a uniform layer of ink onto a rubber stamp and stamp directly onto the fabric. Do not squeeze the bottle to get ink out; this may cause the dabber to pop out. Only the dabbing action allows flow of the fabric ink. Test your designs on scrap material before working on your finished product. Be creative and have fun; use several colors on the same stamp. Clean off dabber applicator with a clean paper towel if it becomes contaminated. Rinse dabber top with water and replace cap right after use. Clean hands and stamps with soap and water immediately after use for easy clean-up. For permanent results heat set by ironing your designs onto the fabric before laundering. HEAT SET INK - is a remarkable water-soluble, dye-based fabric ink that allows you to stamp any design on any piece of paper and to use that paper as an iron-on transfer. This paper transfer removes the anxiety of stamping directly onto fabric. Ink a foam pad, foam wedge or a piece of Cut 'n Dry foam and apply the ink to the stamp. Once the image(s) are stamped (Use any type of paper-post-it notes are great since you can stick them right to the fabric - remember to stamp on the sticky side of the post-it!!!!) to the crafters satisfaction they can be transferred immediately after drying or saved for later use (send some transfers to a friend). For best results use synthetic fabrics or synthetic and cotton blends. The more synthetic in the fabric the better. Using a dry iron heated to the HIGH temperature setting, pin the transfer (stamped side down) onto one thickness of your fabric. Place a clean piece of paper over the entire area that will be touched by the iron (all fabric, as well as the transfer). Press down for 15 seconds moving the iron slightly during this time to avoid light impressions under iron steam holes. Presto! You've got a reverse image of what you stamped out. No curing time is necessary, but the fabric should be washed before a transfer is applied and can be laundered 72 hours after the ink has been transferred, in cool water with a mild, non-bleach detergent (hand washing always works best). Soap and water clean-up. Available in 12 imPRESSive colors in a .5 oz. bottle with applicator tip. PERMANENT FABRIC INK - is a permanent ink that conforms to ASTM labeling. Permanent Fabric ink works best on 50/50 blends but will also work well on muslin, 100% polyester, nylon, cotton or poly/rayon blends. This ink is solvent based and requires no curing or heat setting. A pigment ink, it is available in 4 miscible colors. To use, shake the bottle well while the cap is still on. This will activate the mixing ball inside. Apply ink generously to a dry felt pad by pressing the applicator top directly onto the pad while squeezing the re-inker. Once inked the pad will stay wet for up to 2 weeks if kept closed in a zip lock bag when not in use. Re-inking the pad will reactive (rewet) the ink. Prepare fabric by laundering and stretch a single thickness onto a piece of stiff cardboard before stamping. Test stamp on scrap fabric. Allow 72 hours to dry. Clean stamps with our solvent cleaner or Cleansit. T&C 236 can be used to thin and/or clean this ink. Fabric ink comes in 2 oz. re-inkers or in kit for-a reinker, a #0 size dry, raised felt pad and instruction card. THINNERS AND CLEANERS - are used to lower viscosity and remove ink from stamps, tools and work surfaces. We manufacture both water and solvent based cleaners as well as thinners for some of our solvent-based inks. Cleansit, all purpose, non-toxic stamp cleaner is a gentler way to clean solvent inks. Clean acrylic based inks from hands and tools with soap and water immediately after use. Stubborn dye ink stains can usually be removed from the skin (especially the hands where skin is roughest) with shampoo! RANGER'S INK GLOSSARY Colorant - the color in an ink, either a dye or a pigment Resin - chemical that causes the color to stick to a surface Vehicle - liquid portion of an ink, either water or solvent base Dye - a transparent colorant that goes into solution, a stain Pigment - an opaque colorant that goes into suspension FD&C - approved by the FDA for use in Foods, Drugs and Cosmetics GRAS - used by the FDA for pigments, Generally Regarded as Safe pH - relates to water and water based systems, neutral signifies the hydrogen ion concentration in pure water; a measure of acidity or alkalinity on a scale of 0-14 7 is considered neutral, 0-6 acidic and 8-14 alkaline acid-free - safe for use in scrapbooks, will not degrade paper viscosity - thickness of a fluid, determines flow reduce - to lower viscosity substrate - surface or material being marked/colored non-porous - non-absorptive, impenetrable porous - absorptive, permeable resolution - crispness/clarity of a stamping open time - drying time, amount of wet time before drying miscible - able to be mixed, can create more colors by mixing surfactant - facilitates spreading or flow ASTM-D4236 - labeling guidelines set by the government for craft materials

1. DYE INKS RECOMMENDED SURFACES: matte & glossy cardstock NOT FOR USE ON: Glass, vinyl, shrink plastic, fabrics & other non-porous surfaces. NOTE: Ranger Archival inks are permanent under wet work.

3. SEMI PERMANENT INKS
4. PERMANENT INKS
5. BRILLIANCE INKS
WATERCOLOR/PAINTS/WET WORK: To paint with watercolors, you must work with a "wet" product on top of a stamped image. (same thing goes for using a blender pen) This means you need an inkpad which dries permanent enough to NOT smear under wet work. Standard pigment and dye inkpads, when dry, will smear under wet work. However, there are some brands of dye and pigment inkpads that are permanent enough when dry to NOT smear under wet work. The following will work well under wet work: PENCIL WORK: When you use colored pencils, pastel pencils or chalks, the above info for "wet work" also applies. The pressure you use when pushing down on the cardstock will often smear the ink if you aren't using the appropriate ink. SHRINK PLASTIC, CD's & TRANSPARENCIES/ACETATE: Ranger 213, StazOn and Brilliance are always my preferences for shrink plastic/acetate/CD's (or any other non-porous surface) because it always dries quickly and stamps crisply and clearly. Make sure your pad is well inked prior to stamping, and let it set a bit (5 minutes or so) to "settle" before you ink up your stamp. Brilliance pads also will air dry on shrink plastic/acetate if you give them enough time. Fabrico, when heat set, will dry on shrink plastic or acetate, though I don't feel they stamp as crisply as does Ranger 213 and StazOn. Most Fabric inks will dry on shrink plastic/acetate, but they may need heat setting. A storage tip for the Ranger 213 pads: These inkpads will naturally dry out quickly when not in use. One way to keep them from drying out while not in use is to put them in a zip lock bag and then store them in your freezer. So, as a newbie, you need to understand the differences between dye inks,
pigment inks, permanent inks and fabric inks. Then buy according to your
needs. (if you aren't working on fabrics, you don't NEED fabric inks at
the moment) I am often asked which colors to buy first when a stamp artist
begins acquiring stamp pads. My best advice is to look at a box of crayons,
the smallest box. What colors are there? The basic colors: Black, red,
yellow, blue, purple, green, brown. A GOOD black pad is absolutely necessary
and my preference is the Ranger Archival Jet Black inkpad and here's why:
it dries fairly quickly, it dries true black (not a dull gray), it is permanent
under wet work, markers and pencil work (if you choose that). Other than
that, I personally look for "color" when choosing my inks. I am quite
preferential to Ranger Industries and their products, but that IS a personal
preference. If you want a nice metallic inkpad, the best on the market
is probably Encore Metallic pigment inks. If you want metallic colors,
you have to switch to pigment inks because metallics just don't work well
in a dye ink format. Start out purchasing the basic colors, then add to
your colors as you NEED more.

Subject: Reinking the Inkpads A pigment pad does not soak into the pad you need to work it into the pad with the tip of the bottle or use a flat square paint brush small one works best. You need to work the ink into the foam pad or it will just sit there on the top in a line just like you put it on. A dye pad will absorb the ink all by itself. If you go in one direction and apply the ink in a line from one end to the other you will be able to see how fast the ink is being absorbed. Don't add ink until it sits on top of the pad (too much). If the pad is really dry you may want to ink in the opisite direction for better coverage. Let the pad sit upside down (with the lid on) for about 10 to 20 minutes. This will help with a more even distribution of the ink to the stamping surface of the pad.
