Lyra Aquacolor Water Soluable Crayons
Author: Tyra L. Smith

The Watercolor Crayons are one of the most beautiful and versatile products on the market. They are extremely easy to use and have wide range of uses. There are a few different brands on the market, though I personally prefer the Lyra brand.

You can use a plastic palette (butter tub lid) and scribble your crayons on it and then pick up the color with a wet paintbrush or waterbrush and paint directly onto your cardstock. Keep in mind that if you stamp an image first, use a semi-permanent ink of some type so the stamped image does not smear as you paint. (use inkpads such as Brilliance, Staz-On or Ranger Archival)

You can colore DIRECTLY onto the stamp (called Direct To Rubber) with the watercolor crayon, spritz the stamp lightly with water and then stamp on your cardstock. This creates a lovely, soft watercolor effect. You can add in more color as desired too.

You can use the watercolor crayons directly onto your cardstock for deeper, bolder colors. Use a wet paintbrush, waterbrush or sponge to blend the colors as desired.

As with most watercolors, you can also mix in other products for special effects. You can use any powdered mica pigment (Pearl Ex, Perfect Pearls, etc..) to add shimmer. You can mix in pearlescent or iridescent tinting mediums as well.

I use my Lyra watercolor crayons quite a bit and I do love them. They are highly pigmented and last a very long time. This is one product I can personally highly recommend to any stamper or paper artist.
