Smith (Manufacturer HammondsGroup, Inc http://www.scorit.com/) I'd heard about this new "scoring tool" for a long time. I kept wondering, "Why do I need it?" Why do I even want it? What is so unique about this "tool"? As any paper or stamp artist knows, folding and scoring papers and cardstocks is a part of every day artistic life. I generally make all of my own envelopes, along with cards and other folded projects. My tool of choice had always been a bone folder and a ruler (on a good day.....a paper cutter would also be necessary on a normal day when my folds were less than perfect). It was a method of folding and scoring that I'd been using since I started working with various paper arts MANY MANY moons ago - it worked, most of the time, more or less. <smile> Why should I change? My curiosity got the better of me and I purchased a Scor-It Board. I figured, if it would make folding and scoring easier, it would be nice to have. When I got it, I took it out of the package and just looked at it. Hmmm...interesting, but not "impressive" to look at. At least not at that time. I let it sit on my desk for a few days and just thought about it. The design is really a very good one. It is a sturdy and durable tool which is very simple in its design and use. Simple is good!! At the top of the board is a centering ruler. This is fantastic because it makes scoring something down the absolute middle as easy as cooking a frozen dinner!!! There is a moveable stop along the top as well, so you can set the stop and just nestle the edge of your paper/cardstock up against it and hold it firm to score. The surface of the scoring board was obviously given a lot of thought and consideration by those who use these types of tools. It has a black foam like surface that is extremely durable, but it also "grabs" the paper and cardstock so that it doesn't slip around at all. I LOVE that!!! OK, so I scored my first folded card. Amazingly, I didn't have to trim up the sides at all with my paper cutter. It was a perfect score and fold. The outside edge of my cardstock did not crinkle or stretch and the fold was just as beautiful as the cardstock. Getting a perfect score and fold is diffcult to believe, even when you are looking at it!! OK, so I knew I could do a simple score and fold. But what about things that required more than one score or fold? Things like boxes and envelopes? Believe it or not, they are just as easy to score and fold as a single folded card. Line up the area to be scored with the metal scoring bar and simply "scor-it" and fold. No more slightly askew envelopes or boxes!!! The Scor-It Board would be a nice addition to anyone's art room. I'm glad I bought one.
